Gary Chapman

Dr. Gary Chapman is the world famous author and speaker behind the successful 5 Love Languages series. With over 9 million copies sold and translated into 49 languages, the 5 Love Languages offers vital information all couples need to know to better their marriage.

The premise behind the 5 Love Languages is that we all have a primary way we like to receive love. The problem is that our default way to express love is how we like to receive it and not particularly how our spouse likes to receive love. By knowing both how we and our spouse like to receive love, we can communicate love more effectively to our spouse and communicate how we want to receive love. People in love don’t divorce.

Dr. Gary Chapman and the 5 Love Languages

The 5 Love Languages are:

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Acts of Service
  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Quality Time
  5. Physical Touch

Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Willard Harley, Jr. share a similar basic concept. Chapman calls it a Love Tank while Harley calls it the Love Bank. Both refer to a reserve of positive love one feels from their spouse. Dr. Gary Chapman’s 5 Love Languages helps build up that Love Tank, especially when you know the primary way your spouse recognizes love.

There are several books in the 5 Love Languages series including one for men, women, and for children. His most recent book in the series is for military couples. His material is easy to read and offers plenty of examples. Dr. Gary Chapman provides a good assessment tool to help determine our love language. With the information he offers, it’s easy to connect better with your spouse and increase the the love he/she feels from you.

My wife and I have a marriage ministry at our church. We were considering doing a short 4-week class on the “four seasons of marriage” by Dr. Gary Chapman. does anyone know if there are materials that can be used in such a class?
